Goodbye Tally, Hello Cactus

June 17th, 2026 / Ben DiFrancesco

DAOs can be prickly places. Contentious. Political. That's part of human nature. And crypto was never going to fix that.

But at their best DAOs are also tough. They resist destruction. They protect their resources. They're alive. They grow. Individual nodes branch, bud, flower and seed new ground. They're active and dynamic, even as they're structured and secure.

Cactus - Living Systems for Onchain Organizations

Today we have to say goodbye to the Tally brand. It will be remembered as an iconic symbol of the earliest days of onchain organizations.

And today we say hello to Cactus. It will be part of a new era of onchain coordination. It will be practical enough to get things done in the real world. But it won't cease to strive for the promise at the heart of crypto.

What is that promise?

It's not warm fuzzies and kumbaya vibes. If you're still joining DAOs for these in 2026, you'll soon be sorely disappointed.

The promise of DAOs isn't coordination without contention. It's coordination without capture. It's a world where the infrastructure used by so many, financial or otherwise, can't be controlled or weaponized by a few.

In a world driven by network effects, onchain orgs offer a way to avoid the creeping, centralized corporate technocracy we find ourselves sleep walking into. Escaping that future lies at the heart of our decision to take over Tally. And so it underpins the brand we've chosen for the platform.

But achieving that future won't happen by talking about it. It will happen only if we buckle down and do the small, often mundane day-to-day work required to build the tools that will enable it. That's what we've been doing since we took over Tally.

And that's what we'll continue to do with Cactus moving forward.

What else and what's next?

Over the last several weeks, we've shipped a whole host of performance improvements. If you're a regular user of the platform, we hope you've noticed that things are snappier and more responsive than ever. There's still lots to do here. Expect continuous improvements on the performance and usability fronts.

We've also been planning the roadmap of new features, both big and small, that we will ship in the coming months. The driver behind all of these features is simple: how can we enable stakeholders to grow dynamic, living, onchain organizations without sacrificing transparency, security, and capture resistance. Everything we ship will be in service of this goal.

For now, the changes are small. A new logo, some new colors, a new identity. In the days ahead, we'll roll out branding updates to our docs and our communications channels. You should follow the platform's new handle on X at @CactusHQxyz.

For a short period, the app will continue to be hosted at the tally.xyz domain. In the near future, we'll begin forwarding all Tally URLs to cactushq.xyz. Links with the old domain will continue to work for a while.

If you've got questions about what this will mean for your organization, don't hesitate to reach out. API users in particular are encouraged to get in contact to make sure they can migrate cleanly to the new domain.

Onward!

Beyond these changes, don't expect anything flashy. We're not here to sell you on hype. Cactus is already a great product; we're going to keep making it better, bit by bit. It will continue to grow and evolve in a steady, secure fashion.

We hope the Cactus platform you're using a year from now is 10x better than the one you used today, but we also hope you've barely noticed the change until you stop to think about it. There's lots to do to get there. Back to work!
